does anyone know of a good travel/trip insurance company? i'm looking to cover trip cancellation & medical /dental insurance. i found one thru am ex but it was over $900 per person & there are 2 of us.thank you.

Travel insurance carriers are not all created equal. You can get these online, and compare coverages and costs. Most are priced reasonably. My wife is on Medicare, and it simply doesn't pay outside the U.S., even in Canada. We're having to get her coverage for a 2 week trip in 3 weeks, mainly for medical reasons. My health insurance pays worldwide. A good place to start is Insuremytrip.com Trip insurance - cancellation - and medical insurance are two different types of policies and probably should not be combined.

Something to check re: travel medical insurance -- pre-existing conditions are usually NOT covered. Check the fine print before you buy!

I use Travel Guard and if you take out your policy within 15 days (?) of your first payment for your trip, pre-existing conditions ARE covered. You can add items and associated costs to your policy as time goes by so that your policy covers everything you want it to cover. I add an umbrella coverage to the basic policy that covers everything I can think of with much higher limits of coverage.
