I will be in salzburg austria for a weekend but would like to spend that weekend in northern italy where should i go and what mode of transportation

I'd have to do some research to determine the best way to get there from Salzburg but we just spent 3 days in Verona and 3 days in Varenna near Lake Como. I think that either would be a good week-end destination. Verona has great restaurants, beautiful piazzas and the Roman arena. Varenna is a great place to relax with amazingly beautiful views of Lake Como and the Alps, hiking, and more great food.

Just checked and Air Berlin flies from Salzburg to Milan. Lake Como is a one hour train ride from Milan--Verona is about 2.5 hours. You can access almost any part of northern Italy from Milan. We flew Air Berlin a couple of weeks ago and it was fine--they got us to our destination safely and gave us a chocolate Easter bunny when we left the plane!
