Trenitalia website help

I am trying to check into the Mini Fare for Rome to Vencie on 8-2-12. I typed in Roma and Venezia but it gave an error that my stations were wrong as entered. Help please? Also read on this forum that TGV has discounted rates. Wanted to see if anyone knew what a "discounted" rate would be from Lausanne to Paris (8-9-12). I saw a 149.60 euro fare for 2 people. Seems like a railpass would be most cost effective here ($140 for 2 ppl for this leg).

Currently there is direct TGV service from Lausanne to Paris, but that will change in July. In August you will need to take a regional train from Lausanne to Geneva and a TGV from there to Paris. The standard 2nd class fare on a regional train from Lausanne to Geneva is 21.00 CHF. Buy your ticket in Lausanne. The standard 2nd class fare for a TGV from Geneva to Paris is 108.00 CHF. Booked well in advance (up to three months allowed) on the Swiss Rail site, you can get a discount fare of 96.00 CHF. However, if you book well in advance (up to three months allowed) on tgv-europe.com, you can get a discount fare as low as €25.00. To keep the site in English and to avoid being bumped to the Rail Europe site, choose Great Britain as your country of residence. Choose Switzerland as your ticket retrieval country. You can print your own ticket.

"Vencie" - you obviously mean Venice

Brenda, you have to type the stations in Italian on that site - Venezia St Lucia and Roma Termini, for example.

Brenda, when you begin typing the station name in Italian, a small box appears in the left center of the page just below the green mini-fare box. your station from the list presented. For stations like La Spezia or Napoli, you have to La Spezia Centrale or Napoli Centrale.

I don't know if this is the problem, but 8-2-12 (Feb 8, 2012) is long past.

I think Lee has pinpointed the problem. If you entered the date in the trenitalia website the way you did on your post, you're looking for February 8, not August 2. Reverse the day and month and try again, and see if that works!

Better yet, use the calendar to pick the date, and you do not have to worry about formatting it correctly. If you go to the start page for Trenitalia.com, you should not have to type in the stations. Under "To", you get as far as VEN and the drip-down menu will offer the Venezia stations. Choose Venezia Santa lucia (in red). For Rome, you'll get Roma with the first 3 letters. Choose Roma Termin (also in red) These are the stations for the fast ES trains. . There are still 19 euro mini fares left on August 2, at 12:27 and 12:57. I hope you get it to work and are able to purchase at that fare.
