Trenitalia vs. SBB

trying to price out tickets for our trip in September from Venice to Tirano..from there we are using our Swiss 2 for 1 and taking the Bernina Express to Chur.. I can find the entire route and pricing on SBB if I enter venice-tirano but on the trenitalia site it says no service found..I have tried breaking it up venice to milan..milan to tirano ..I can get the first leg but not the second.. I think I read to buy tickets on Trenitalia vs sbb because of higgling shipping cost...also do we wait until RS site has the Swiss 2 for 1 fall special?

Vikki, the Trenitalia site is under development and is not fully functioning righ tnow. There is a note apologiving for the inconvenience. The train from Milan to Tirano is a regional train, and it seems they do not have the complete schedules for all the regional trains as yet. You can get it to show the trains as far as Lecco, but not onward to Tirano. Yet if you compare to the trains shown on the SBB site, you'll see that these are the same trains-they depart Milano, stop in Lecco, and then travel onward to Tirano. Just be patient and Trenitalia will show the correct schedule eventually. You cannot buy tickets for regional trains so far in advance anyway, at least not on Trenitalia. Buying from SBB will incur a 45 CHF shipping fee for your 12 CHF tickets.
