Trenitalia train 9721 from Bolzano to Milano Centrale — Please help

I am traveling the second week of October 2026. I want to buy a ticket in the business carriage for the direct train. I want the seat to be near my luggage as I am traveling alone and have a disability. What is equally important is to buy a forward facing seat.

Now I understand a forward facing seat is not guaranteed. Bolzano is the terminal. Is there a way to make an educated guess as to which seat could be most likely forward facing based on what this train & route typically do?

I will follow your advice when I buy my ticket to Bolzano from Milano Centrale (arriving from MXP initially that morning). Apparently, that route goes on sale 60 days prior.

If anyone can help me, I would really appreciate it Thank you!

There is no way to address the direction of travel for a seat. It is 50,50 and can change during the trip. Coaches are designed to run in either direction -- hence -- all seats face the middle. You may have to ask someone to switch with you. Near your luggage can be handy but is not critical as luggage theft is very infrequent. You need to reserve a first class ticket.

That train reverses direction in Verona. So no matter which seat you book, you will be facing backwards half the time.

Of course, buying a ticket for a specific train on the day of arrival on an intercontinental flight involves risk. Your plane may be delayed or even cancelled, clearing Schengen immigration could be slow.

To be honest, I am not seeing a train #9721 direct to Bolzano. I do see a train #9751 direct at 17:45, and it is the only direct train of the day. Your title also states, "from Bolzano to Milano Centrale", but the text indicates you are traveling the other direction.

The train I want is 9721 originating in Bolzano going to Milano Centrale without changing trains. It is an a morning train according to the Trenitalia app. According to what I read, Verona Porta Nuova is a through station on that route.

As for the train to Bolzano on the day I arrive at MXP, indeed there is a risk so I want to allow cushion as I don’t know what to expect at MXP as that is an airport to which I’ve never been. I will have Wheelchair Service to the train to Milano Centrale from MXP but I don’t know how good that is. I will have carry-on bags only. I also don’t know about delays out of JFK which can always happen. I will be leaving JFK on a Saturday afternoon arriving early Sunday morning at MXP so my train to Bolzano will be on a Sunday. The app isn’t selling tickets now to Bolzano. Too early.

9721 is the morning train from Bolzano to Milan, 9751 is the evening train Milan-Bolzano. The tickets are aleady on sale for 2nd week October. I don't see a big demand for business class on these trains so swapping seat at Verona ought to be possible. If their website is accurate you need coach number 3

Thank you everybody especially for the reassurance that if need be, it shouldn’t be too difficult to ask someone to swap seats with me even in business class due to my motion sickness. The one thing I do lack is conversational Italian, so I will have to use an app to ask very politely, of course! I assumed that the train might be very crowded as it will be only one of two direct trains to Milano Centrale and this will be a Friday morning train which could be even busier.

me.crewe, is there a specific email address to request assistance from sala blu when going to Bolzano from Milano Centrale, taking the train from Bolzano to Milano Centrale, and then my arrival at Milano Centrale asking for their assistance to get me to a taxi? I didn’t see an email link so maybe I missed it. Thank you.
