I am supposed to take a train from Venice S. Lucia to Rome Termini on Monday November 10th at 14:43. Due to the Trenitalia strike I don't know how I will get back to Rome! Our train is number 9643. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle the strike? I am a college student studying abroad so I do not have a lot of extra money to spend. Is there a way to change my ticket without purchasing a whole new ticket? Any help is appreciated!!!
A limited number of trains are guaranteed to run during a strike. I checked the list on the Trenitalia site, but I didn't find any for Venice-Rome. However, I found one, R 2245, that leaves Venezia Santa Lucia at 17:57 and arrives at Bologna Centrale at 20:04. Since the strike isn't scheduled to end until 21:00, you probably won't be able to take ES 9451 which normally leaves Bologna Centrale at 20:46 and arrives at Roma Termini at 23:30. However, you should be able to take E 837 from Bologna Centrale to Roma Tiburtina, leaving at 01:15 and arriving at 06:09.
But don't take my word for any of this! Ask the people at Termini.
Linsey, could you change you ticket to a day earlier or is your original ticket non-refundable? 89.20.21 is the local number for customer info. I found the number on the trenitalia.com/en/index.html site. Good luck!
Thanks for the tip. Since I live in Rome I am planning to go to Termini tomorrow to try to sort out the situation. Unfortunately I cannot change the date of my train travel because I traveling to Prague this weekend and my flight from Prague arrives in Venice on Monday. I to figure out some way to get from Venice back to Rome.
Linsey, while I didn't find it earlier today, Ron who lives in Rome has posted on another thread a list of the long-distance trains that are guaranteed to run during a strike. Good news: Train number 9643 is on that list so you're good to go!
