We are wanting to travel from Milan to Zurich by train in April. I understand from other posts in the forum that you cannot get the smart fare online; is this accurate? If so, what is the best way and best price to get train tickets for 2 adults and a 12 year old?

You can see the smart fares on www.trenitalia.com but the question is -- will www.trenitalia.com accept your credit card. They used to accept mine but sometime in the middle of last year, they seemed to have stopped accepting American credit cards. Not sure if they are still rejecting American credit cards. Be cautious on looking at schedules more than 90 days out. They may be incomplete.
You might try registering with www.trenitalia.com. They will send you a password immediately by email. You need to respond immediately to change it. Once registered, you can look at the schedules and fares. You'll find out soon if they will accept your credit card.
One other option is to look for special fares on the Swiss train website. www.sbb.ch You can buy from them.

Thank you so much for your response. I did register for the site. When I go to choose the fare for the train that we want, it shows the fare but the box is greyed out. Can we get a similar price (the smart fare is 19 euro) from the Swiss site? Thanks again for your assistance.
