Trenitalia registration

Having trouble registering on the Trenitalia website to purchase tickets on line. The "place of birth" drop down list does not include "US" as a choice. And, there is a repeated message that an address in Italy is required for registration. Any tips for completing registration? I've read previous posts that indicate tickets can be purchased without registration, but I can't seem to get that done either.

I registered 2 years ago and had no problems. A friend this year registered, but could only purchase tickets when on as a "guest". One of the biggest problems is to notify your credit card co that you will be making a foreign transaction in Italy for train tickets. As a last ditch, look at Italiarail. They charge a small commission but the website is way more user friendly. Compare the prices between Trenitalia and Italiarail to make sure its a fair deal.

Suzanne, try Stati Uniti d'America as you Country of Birth. After you register, Trenitalia will send you an email with a temporary password. You need to sign on soon after to change it to a permanent password. Also, as you look for tickets, please note that if you look for dates after Dec 12, you may not see all the runs. That's the date that Trenitalia refreshes their train schedules (they do it twice a year).

Duh: Stati Uniti d'America. Of course. Time to get out the Italian phrase book. Many thanks for the help, gentlemen. I have successfully registered, purchased some tickets, found a 1st class for 5E more than the 2nd class ticket, and have 105 points in my Trenitalia frequent traveler account. Used the Rome hotel address to register. I am sure they will be surprised to get my Trenitalia ID card in the mail. No problem with the credit card and confirming emails were instantly received. Thanks again!
