Trenitalia refunds for Coronavirus cancellations

Has anyone successfully submitted the web form for requesting a refund from Trenitalia pursuant to this announcement?

https://www.trenitalia.com/it/informazioni/rimborso-per-rinuncia-al-viaggio-febbraio-2020.html

The web form (in English) looks like this:

https://reclami-e-suggerimenti.trenitalia.com/rimborsi/(S(doccxc31wsdv5t0xz5phnoxg))/en/Anagrafica.aspx

I have tried submitting the filled-out form several times from two different computers with different browsers (Safari and Chrome), but every time I get the error message that “the application was intercepted.” Nothing is highlighted as missing or improperly formatted. It sounds like some other kind of problem, but I can’t figure out what it could be.

Sounds rather typical of the Trenitalia website which always leans somewhere between unfriendly and buggy.

Letizia, we are canceling the Italy portion, more due to misgivings about being stuck in a quarantine somewhere, or finding museums and other tourist attractions closed, and being in a place where the local population is on edge. Also we are in the most vulnerable age group ( over 70) and one of us has Low-level health issues that we do not want to exacerbate. And even if we don't get sick ourselves, we could pick up the virus and spread it around unknowingly, even bringing it home to family members and friends.

For now we are keeping the U.K. portion and have a week to decide on that.

This thing seems to be moving very fast, and it is hard to know what it will be like in a week. But we have reservations and flights for another trip to Italy in July, and hopefully the situation will have resolved by then.

I don't know if this idea will help but, when I had trouble ordering tickets from 2 different European websites, when I switched internet browsers I was able to complete both transactions without difficulty.

Thank you. After reading the TripAdvisor post I switched to using the web form in Italian and that worked.

Here is the link for the English version of the page Lola originally linked to - you can't navigate from the Italian version to the English language version by making the selection in the upper right of screen:
https://www.trenitalia.com/en/info_contacts/refund-for-journey-cancellation.html

There seems to be conflicting information - they use the term "refund" which by any interpretation means "money back." But in the next paragraph they state "...will be refunded with an electronic bonus equal to the purchase value of the ticket, usable within one year from the date of issue of the bonus." So for those that might consider turning an Italy trip into UK because their tickets to Europe are on British Airways, that money won't be back on your credit card.

I am assuming the "refund" for Frecciarossa tickets will be in the form of a voucher for future travel.
