TrenItalia Online Purchasing question

Hey Everybody,

I have read the recent online purchasing issues, but I have one further question. I am trying to purchase a ticket from Villach to Venice - coming into Villach from Salzburg with a 40-min. connection time, so I would rather purchase in advance. Under the "Ticket Delivery" section, I only have two options - "Self Service (Not present in the departure station) or Home Delivery".

So even if I COULD purchase the tickets online from TrenItalia, does that mean that I will not be able to pick them up, or does that just mean that I have to pick them up from the ticket window?

This segment of the trip is a "Subject to compulsory reservation" and the next train going to Venice is 4 1/2 hours later and gets into Venice at 21:00 - much later than I would like.

We are leaving for Europe June 11, with this particular trip on June 28.

Thanks,
Cindy

When you select self-service, you will receive an email confirmation from Trenitalia (I have one in hand as I write this post). On that email, you will have a booking code (also called a PNR). This booking will have your seat reservations on it as well. When you show this to the conductor, they are equipped with wireless PDAs that they can use to validate your PNR. They can even print out a receipt for you.

I suggest that you book Villach-Venice by phoning the Austrian Rail call center. Dial 011 (US international access code) + 43 (country code for Austria) + (0)5-1717. Omit the zero in parentheses. It is only used for calls originating in Austria. Ask for a 19€ Sparschiene fare. See here.
