Trenitalia from Florence to Pisa.... then to Lucca question

I want to take a train from Florence to Pisa... and then afterwards (an hour or two later) continue from Pisa to Lucca. Can I/should I buy one ticket from Florence to Lucca and after my short visit in Pisa, just validate it (again) when getting the train from Pisa to Lucca? Or do I need to buy two separate tickets?

If I do indeed need to buy a 2nd ticket.....
On Google maps street view, I don't see any ticket machines at the Pisa San Rossore station (which is where I'd like to get the train for the Pisa to Lucca leg)... so I'm trying to figure out where I can get that ticket (without using an app).

I don't know the answer to the one or two ticket question. I would guess it's a separate ticket for each leg.
However, these are all local, quite cheap journeys.
We just bought a ticket at a machine on the way from Florence and on the way back.
There is a ticket machine at San Rossore (or there was a year ago). It's on the wall of the building in the trainglar piazza you can see on google earth.
We could not find a machine in the underpasses between platforms.

Florence SMN to Pisa S. Rossore: 9.30 Euro per person.
Pisa S. Rossore to Lucca: 3.90 €. Total 13.20 €
A single-purchase-ticket with a change in Pisa costs 10.8 € , but you must take the 2nd train within 4 hours from validation.

You want to enter one of the other buildings near the tower? You want to walk around the city center along the Arno River? Sorry there is not time for that.

In short, you are setting a deadline to save 2.4 € per person.

Anyway, here are the good news:

you can buy any Trenitalia ticket at any Trenitalia station. Or at any tobacconist shop showing the PUNTOLIS or the Mooney logos on the window. In other words: in Florence you can simply make two separate purchases, either at the counter or at the ticket machines (push the "change departure station" on the screen) or at the neighbourhood Tobacconist.

Personally I’d prefer to stay in Lucca, and day trip to Pisa. It’s a quick 30 minute train from Lucca to Pisa, and the same on return. Ricks guidebook has a walking tour of Pisa from the main train station to the tower. Then there is a closer station back to Lucca. Lucca is very enjoyable. Pisa is for me the field of Miracles and the tower, and that’s it. Lucca has little shuttle buses from the center to the train station, or about a 20 minute walk. They run both ways.

Those are easy trips and in the same situation I'd just buy separate tickets for each leg of the journey, using the Kiosks in the station. They have English language options and are very easy to use. As you'll be buying paper tickets, be sure to validate them in the small machines prior to boarding the train or you'll risk hefty fines.

Check the Trenitalia website to ensure that the trains you'll be taking are Regionale as those don't require seat reservations which are specific to train, date and departure time.
