Trenitalia -- booking and reservations

I am traveling in a group of five to Italy at the end of the month. We're thinking of buying a group Eurail pass for Italy to get around via trains.

(1) Does the Eurail Italy pass cover all of Trenitalia's network (i.e. high speed, intercity, etc.)?

(2) The high speed trains require reservations. If I buy a pass in advance, how do we pay the reservation fees? Do we reserve seats at the train station, and pay the fees then?

Thanks for any feedback!

Same answer as Steve.

Several regular repliers here, our Europe "rail gurus," have each concluded, after studying the situation a number of times, that for travel limited to Italy a rail pass doesn't make economic sense, pretty much ever. (rarely is such a categorical statement possible regarding Europe train travel). In fact, I can't recall any discussion here in the last several years--of travel only within Italy--that has ever resulted in a considered opinion by a knowledgeable person that a rail pass in Italy would save money, compared to the alternative of point to point tickets (people here buy P to P tickets in Italy because the Trenitalia website rejects all US credit cards).

Note that I said "for travel only within Italy." The answer could be different if your travel is not limited to Italy.
