Trenitalia app for iPhone

Hello fellow travelers!

I have downloaded the Trenitalia app to my iPhone, and I am having difficulties. First I can find nowhere to add a payment option to my profile.

Second, when I try to search trains by time and put in "08" as my starting time, it gives me options for 8pm in the evening. It must be a setting somewhere, but I can't find any of it. Does anyone know how to use this app, or can you refer me to "directions for dummies"?

Thank you!
Beth

Beth,

I don't use the Trentalia app, so don't know why it's not working properly. There's probably a logical explanation?

You might also try the Trainline App or their website at www.trainline.com. Registration on the site is required along with payment details, but once that's done the process is very easy. One advantage of the Trainline site is that they not only sell tickets for both main rail networks in Italy, but also many more all over Europe which provides "one stop shopping". As I recall, they may charge a small fee for some purchases but I don't find that to be a problem.

Hi Beth, be sure you are using the Italian names and stations. I put in the approximate time and am able to scroll to other times. Test just now was Venezia S Lucia to Roma Termini which worked. I see what you mean by time defaulting when I tried Milano Centrale to Venezia S Lucia but after a couple tries I could get the schedule. As for payment info on the app, I don’t know.
I bought tickets last year on Trenitalia using my computer not the app. Dario’s advice was very helpful. Here’s a link to my thread back then https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/transportation/another-italy-train-ticket-question

Hope it helps.

I used the Trenitalia app for Android last year in Italy and it worked fine for me. I did register with them so I save my name info without having to re-type it each time I bought a ticket. I added my Paypal account as a payment option; I don't remember if I was able to do that only because I registered or not.

To register, you need an Italian tax code (Codice Fiscale) which is actually easy to generate - doesn't really mean anything for Americans, but you need to create one to complete the registration. Use this website to create one:

I did find this morning that if I keep scrolling on the times, it will scroll to the next day. So if I start a day early, I can get to the time I want.

Eventually, I bought the tickets on my laptop. The app lets me search by the confirmation number, and then I can add it to my Apple wallet, which was my ultimate goal.

Thanks for your suggestions! Technology is not my strongest skill.
