trenatalia ticket options?

So assuming that my Canadian CC goes through on their web site I was looking at the various ticket options and curious what the differences are:

  1. self service (I understand that is picking it up at the station either through the machine or with the attendent)
  2. ticket with payment receipt email (I assume this means its an email receipt and you print your tickets at home)
  3. ticketless payment with reciept on board (not sure of this one)

which is teh best method to use.
This will be for our trains from Venice-Florence adn Florence-Paris night train.

Self service is generally the electronic ticket machine. If not ticket machine in the station, I don't think you will see this option. 2. is an email that you will receive with a PNR (reservation code) that you can print out at home. I think you can either get a ticket at the ticket machine or ticket window or just get on the train with this document. The conductors have wireless PDAs that they can use to double-check your PNR. 3. I beieve that this is the same as 2. except that they will print out a receipt for you.
