Travelocity is a third (3rd) party extra cost when it comes to changing flight reservations.

Just thought I'd put this out there.
I like(d) Travelocity and used them for at least two decades.

Whenever I book a flight it warns me that I will be charged change fees by the airline if I do that.
What is not apparent and UP-Front is that, besides the expected change fee an airline might charge,
they will also penalize you with a 3rd party change fee.

So I have a flight out and back on American Airlines and I decided I want to arrive sooner at my destination.
Travelocity says after 24 hours I need to call the airline.

So I log into my AA account and the flight is not there. That's curious but not surprising.

But I have the reservation number so I put it in and AA finds my flight.
I click on the change flight and go through all the details and when it comes time to charge my card $206
it says something about the flight I chose is not available. After trying all the available flightss I call AA.

When they call me back and I tell the guy what I want to do and he's practically ahead of me.
So he says what I want is available but says there's a 3rd party fee and it's going to total $250.

I balk and say I couldn't do it online and he says he's not the third party, it's Travelocity.
So I could have booked this all AA flight on AA but I didn't. Also in trying to reach them
afterward the person answering the phone says it's Expedia! Did they take over Travelocity.
I never liked Expedia.

Maybe I should have call Travelocity first and seen if they could have changed the flight
without the extra $50 charge.

So besides the change fee (at least) American Airlines is adding a $50 to the fee for changing
a reservation not originating with them.

A number of travelers here have the opinion that they will always try to avoid booking airfare with a 3rd party.
But probably all of us have violated that rule, but it may be that some of us have not always gotten caught with the downside of the choice of 3rd party booking.

Yes, Travelocity is now part of Expedia Group.

So we'll add the unadvertised change fees to all the other reasons so many of us recommend booking directly with the airlines and not using 3rd party sites for flights. As we've done on so many previous threads.
