Travelling to Wimbledon from the North East

Hi,

Me and a friend are planning on travelling down to Wimbledon through Sunday night to get there early Monday morning, in order to join the queue for Tuesday's play.

I was just wondering if anyone has done the overnight leeping thing for the queue having traveled from outside of London, preferably from the North East?

I have no experience of London and I'm likely to be driving down, therefore parking is an issue as I'm not sure the Wimbledon car parking offers overnight use.

Another option is to drive to Heathrow, pay for long stay parking and get the tube/train over. Does that sound like a good idea?

There are 'official' car parks around but they don't come cheap - £25 if pre-booked to be in Wimbledon Park which is 10 minutes walk away.

On street parking is prohibited in the area.

Thanks.. I'm aware of the £25 parking but like I said I'm not sure if that includes overnight as I'd need to park monday/tuesday. Do you know what the case is with that?

Missed your reference to that first time round. These are all daily visit car parks.

If you are looking for car parking near tube stations this page might give you some ideas: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/modes/driving/tube-station-car-parks

Hillingdon is good because of its size and ease of getting to, just off the A40. Most sell multi day tickets.

I see your problem with this as your arrival time which might be after the underground has stopped over night.

Are you asking about sleeping in your car? I've only done that in emergency situations and rather remote locations. Municipalities may have laws against it. However, people do camp overnight in the field adjacent to the venue in order to be in line very early. Our staffer who once attended in the first week was in line about 9:30 a.m. and got in about 6 hours later on that day.

No I'll not be sleeping in my car. We'll be getting there about 6/7am Monday morning to join/start the queue as early as possible for Tuesdays play. Maybes we might have to join another queue which will then become the proper queue.

I asked about the parking because it appears that the official car park doesn't allow overnight parking so I wouldn't be able to leave my car there over the Monday night. I might have to look at a different car park but I'm not sure if the car parks in the surrounding area require pre-booking or not.

You would need to be in the campsite overnight, as stewards will come to round everyone up around 5am. You will be in a queue all of Monday too until you get the cards in the early evening indicating your place, and court entitlement.

Yeh it's the parking I'm worried about. I'll be in the queue with a tent over night but the cark parks in the grounds don't seem to allow overnight parking.
