I am trying to find out information on trains from Paris to Turin. I am planning a trip in the Fall of 2010 (October) and am arriving Paris - and then on to Turin to visit relatives.
What is the most economical train to take?
There are two direct TGVs from Paris to Turin (Torino). One departs at 07:42 and the other departs at 15:24. The trip takes 5 1/2 hours. There are other departure times, but the routes require connections and the travel time is considerably longer.
If you book well in advance (up to 90 days allowed) at www.tgv-europe.com, you can get a discount 2nd class Prem's fare as low as 30 euro or a 1st class Prem's fare as low as 50 euro. Prem's tickets are non-exchangeable and non-refundable so you must be able to commit in advance to a specific departure date and time.
The flexi 2nd class fare is 95 euro and the flexi 1st class fare is 115 euro so booking early can save you a good deal of money.
To keep the site in English and to avoid being bumped to the Rail Europe site which doesn't offer discount fares, choose Great Britain as your country of residence. You can pick up your ticket at any SNCF station in France. The allotted number of discount tickets sell out fast so book as soon as the 90-day window opens.
2nd class seats are comfortable and have plenty of leg room. For me 1st class isn't worth the extra money.
