Traveling through Europe with Dublin as your base..

I am planning a trip for early 2008, and in doing research realized it is not easy for an American to travel in and out of Ireland (regarless of where you are going to or coming from). If I were to, say spend a few weeks in Ireland leave for a few go back for two and then leave again would I have any problems if this was all done w/ in a three month period? Thanks

What leads you to think that it's difficult for an American to travel in and out of Ireland? I don't see any reason why your plan wouldn't work OK. I've never had a problem entering or leaving Ireland.

It is not difficult to travel in and out of Ireland, but you may be referring to the thing they've started lately of stamping your passport with a short end date, instead of the three months they used to give everyone.

Our last time in Ireland, they stamped my passport for one more day than I said we were staying.

In most EU countries 3 months is automatic; in the UK it's 6.

I had the same experience as Jim, only 1 day past my planned time there. I usually say that less info at passport control is better, but you might say, "I'll be in and out of Ireland until (end date)" I believe that they will give the the visa for up to that date, especially if you have a return ticket out of Ireland to the US for that date.
