Traveling Italy, France and Spain

I'm studying abroad this fall in Granada, Spain (!!!) and my friend and her brother are traveling for about a week and a half beforehand! We are flying into Rome and will spend time there, Florence, Cinque Terre and Angers, France before traveling down to Granada. What would be the suggested means of transportation? I wasn't thinking a rail pass would be necessary, but I'm not sure anymore. Traveling from Angers to Granada as well as the Cinque Terre to Angers seem to be the most expensive destinations. Rome to Florence and Florence to Cinque Terre seem to be simple and straightforward enough. I assume taking the train will be best. But then getting from the Cinque Terre to much less frequented Angers and Angers down to Granada may be a bit trickier. Do we book going through bigger cities like Paris? Do we do night trains? Use planes? I feel like there is a lot of ways to go about it but I have no idea what would be the best! Please help!
Also, as this is my first time abroad I think I would like to have my transportation booked for these travels before I fly to Rome. Thanks for all your suggestions! Erin
