Traveling in the Baltics

My wife and I have been talking about a trip to the Baltics in May. We'er planning to fly in and out of London and use Ryanair to go to Tallinn. From Tallinn we'd like to go to Helsinki St. Petersburg and Riga. Does anyone know of a good low-cost airline that flies through the Balkans?

Hi Bill,
We're taking a similar trip late May but are flying into Copenhagen (from Atlanta) and home from Helsinki. We'll spend 3 nights in Copenhagen and then will fly on SAS Airlines ($89.00 each) from Copenhagen to Vilnius. From Vilnius we're planning to make our way (probably via bus) to Riga, Tartu, Tallinn, and then ferry to Helsinki to spend a couple of nights before we fly home. We're not sure about St. Petersburg but will consider going depending on how much time we have. To check budget airline options, I use www.whichbudget.com. Have a great trip!

Flying might not be the best option for those places. Certainly the Tallinn-Helsinki connection is just a 90 minute ferry. There is train and ferry connections between Helsinki and St. Petersburg now too (the ferry even waives the visa requirement for you). And BTW - I assume you mean an airline that flies in the Baltic, not Balkans.

We've used Air Estonia; flights go through Tallinn. Consider Air Baltic also; flights go through Riga. There's also Finn Air. But I don't know if these would be considered "low-cost." I'm using www.skyscanner.net to research flights for this Summer. We've traveled by bus from Tallinn to Riga in the past. Have a great trip.

A couple of additional resources I'm using to help plan our trip to the Baltics are: 1) Trip Advisor forum for the Lativia, Lithuania, and Estonia (listed individually) and 2) In Your Pocket Guides - available free online. Best wishes!
