traveling from Sorrento on the Amalfi coast

There are six of us traveling from Sorrento on a Saturday in late September to Positano and then to Amalfi and then on to Salerno. Which is the best way to accomplish this? We want to stop off in the small towns along the way to Salerno and then hop back on a bus. Also, we want to get back to Sorrento from Salerno.

You can do all of this both ways from Sorrento on the local SITA bus.

There are only three ways: 1. Bus, as Judy described. A potential problem is that buses can be full, and if your time is tight (as it will be trying to do this all in 1 day), you may use up a lot of time waiting for one with space. 2. Private driver. This, of course, is not cheap, but split among 6 people, may be the way to go, particularly since you want to cover so much ground. Realize that Sorrento to Salerno is 3 hours, so with meaningful stopovers, you're looking at a VERY long day, no matter how you do it. 3. There are also boats between some of the towns, but you have to check the schedule for September VERY carefully, to avoid being stranded. I'd go for the driver, myself. There's lots of them, as this is a very popular route; check here on this forum, in the Rick Steves Italy book, or on TripAdvisor for recommendations.

I'd also recommend a private driver. Our family of 8 adults used "Your Tour in Italy" last July. They were fantastic. See recommendations for them on Trip Advisor. Yes, a bit more expensive than the bus, but well worth it.
