Traveling from Rome to Athens and then from Crete to Paris

Hey everyone! I was wondering if anyone had advice/info to help in anyway with the following situation: I'll be flying from Rome to Athens using Ryan Air or EasyJet. Is there a cheaper airline? Also, I'll be going to Crete from Athens. Should I fly there? Or should I take the cheaper option and take the ferry? Is it worth it to spend multiple hours on the ferry? And finally, I'll be heading to Paris after three days in Crete. The main airport in Crete, Heraklion, offers flights to Paris via Aegean Airlines or Olympic airlines but they're crazy expensive, around $250 for one way. I've also looked at flights from Crete to Rome and then taking a night train to Paris but that seems to be around the same price as flying and takes much longer. So, I'm totally confused as the best way to travel these legs on my journey. Any advice from you seasoned travelers out there? I'd appreciate all the help I can get! Thanks!

Some ideas for you: Aegean Air sometimes beats Easyjet's price from Rome to Athens. It'll depend on the date you're flying. I'd buy a round-trip ticket on Aegean or Olympic between Athens & Heraklion. (You can't fly Heraklion-Paris direct - you have to go back through Athens). Why spend several hours on a ferry when the flight takes less than an hour? Finally, Easyjet will give you the best price from Athens to Paris (Orly). I arbitrarily picked a date of June 8th. Easyjet's one-way price was only 85 euros.

Ok thanks! I'm looking at the ferry - it's much cheaper but I don't know if it's worth the 6.5 hours on a boat. Also, is there a cheaper way of getting from Rome to Athens other than flying?

I think you have covered your options. Remember you are cover some great distances and flying is the only real option you have. Look at a map, There is a huge difference in miles between Rome and Paris. Aegean tends to price similar to SW. Be sure you know which airport the discount airlines are using because sometimes they are not close to the cities they are flying to.

You can fly directly from Heraklion to Paris Orly-Sud with Transavia Airline (transavia.com). I have flown with them many times and like them a lot. If you book now prices are quite reasonable. I like landing at Orly, the airport is easy to negotiate and the trip into Paris is a breeze.

Ok, I'll probably fly from Rome to Athens and the only airline that seems to do that is Aegean so hopefully, I'll be able to book the flight when it's reasonably cheap. And thanks for Transavia! It's saving me $75! It doesn't seem like much, but that's three nights' worth of boarding at a hostel for a college student. Thanks! I appreciate it! And I also thank everyone! This is my first time traveling abroad so I'm trying not to get stranded anywhere. I appreciate all the help! Thanks again!

Great tip from Rich about Transavia. Transavia doesn't appear on any search engine that I tried, including skyscanner, kayak, momondo, travelocity. Kind of like Southwest in the US. Lesson learned: you can't be sure that any search engine is all-inclusive. Tips from fellow travelers can sometimes save the day.
