Traveling from Rome...need advice!

Hi, Friends...I am an inexperienced traveler who needs to get five people from Fiumicino Airport to Ascoli Pecino and back after two days...with luggage. I would like a private car (van) and just read about Uber really being limo service in Italy and I'm willing to pay for the convenience and ease...within reason. Can anyone offer me any advice on if this is a feasible idea? Also, suggestions and additional advice are most welcome. I think you very much in advance.

Ascoli Piceno is in the Marche region, quite a distance from Fiumicino Airport. I'm not sure about a private car or Uber for that trip, especially when you said you are willing to pay, but "within reason". I suggest you go to rome2rio.com for information on possible bus transportation, which would involve bus changes. You could also travel by train, but that trip is 7-8 hrs with at least two changes. I visited Ascoli Piceno last year and loved it, but it is not an easy place to travel to from Rome since it is closer to the Adriatic than the Mediterranean. You haven't given us much information about your itinerary, so it is difficult to make further suggestions. Good luck to you.

I have no personal experience with them, but Rome In Limo is another company frequently mentioned on this Forum as one that offers reliable pre-booked cars from the airport. You could contact them for a quote for your needs, so you can see what a private car would cost: https://www.romeinlimo.com/ Email: [email protected]

Given financial and time constraints, I would suggest renting a car. By bus the trip can take between 4-5 hours and cost between $25 and $50 dollars EACH, one way. Rome2Rio suggests that by car, the trip will cost approximately $38-$55 dollars (gas) but will only take 2 hrs and 38 minutes. It's easy to rent at the airport and seems a lot more convenient, given the size of your group.

The elephant in this room is the luggage. No matter how you travel, even if you each have only carry-on and a personal item, herding 5 people with luggage will be a challenge. Rome2rio doesn't list trains for that route even from Roma Termini. Buses take about 5 hours from FCO to Ascoli Piceno. Your luggage will go underneath. The route could be interesting and also provide time for a nap. There will be break stops along the way.

I definitely would not rent a car in Italy if you plan to make this journey after landing at FCO from an overnight flight. It's not a straight and flat trip. Renting a car and driving in Italy has nuances you might never expect and would require a significant amount of study before you go.

Take a look at Rome2rio and the bus companies they list. Look for FCO to Ascoli Piceno. That's the correct spelling and should provide better results. It looks like a lovely town.
