Traveling from Interlaken, Switzerland to Amsterdam

What's the quickest way to train travel from Interlaken to Amsterdam? Go through Paris or go overland through Germany? Dennis

Check sbb.ch (swiss rail site) or German rail http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en? It should route you through. I can't imagine that Paris is a good option - unless you want to catch the Thalys train - probably go through Zurich or Bern. I just look for the fewest transfers (my preference) though sometimes the total trip is shorter with more transfers.

Dennis, The fastest train that I could find from Interlaken Ost to Amsterdam Centraal was 9H:43M, with two changes at Basel and Paris Est / Nord. Although routed through Paris, this trip is perhaps a bit quicker as it uses TGV from Basel to Paris and Thalys from Paris to Amsterdam.

Dennis, I went from Interlaken to Basel, through Lucerne, and caught an easyjet flight. There are flights as low as $31. The Golden Pass from Interlaken to Lucerne is beautiful! It is less than an hour to Basel from Lucerne and a bus from in front of the train station will have you at the airport in about 20 minutes.

I haven't checked today but there was a DB ICE which ran direct from Amsterdam (one change in Mannheim?) right down the Rhein to Interlaken Ost last year. There must be one going back.

I believe they've stopped the direct connection. All connections from Interlaken to Amsterdam are routed through Basel. Via Paris is about 9.5 hrs, there is also a connection via Frankfurt (no change in Basel, only in Frankfurt) that is about as quick - but only one change.

I honestly think the best option is to catch a train to either Genève, Zürich or Basel-Mulhouse airports (all of them easily accessible from Interlaken by train) and fly from any of those airports to Amsterdam Schiphol (also easily and cheaply connected with Amsterdam Downtown by train).
