Traveling from Heathrow Airport to St. Andrews

My daughter is flying into Heathrow at the end of May and is trying to make transportation arrangements to get from Heathrow Airport to St. Andrews (Leuchars station). She's been trying to make train reservations and it seems that she first needs to take the tube to King's Cross, then take a train to Edinburgh, and then take another train to Leuchars. While both the National Rail and Scotrail websites will allow her to plan a trip that includes the entire journey, it doesn't seem that she can get all the necessary tickets at one site. Does that seem right? Will she need to visit three different sites and make three separate reservations for all three legs of her trip?

You do not need a prior ticket for the Tube (cant get a reservation in any case). Dont need one, they run about every 5 minutes. Some Tubes into "the City" get crowded at rush hour but this one should not be a problem- even with luggage. Also no need for reservations ffor the train rom Heathrow to Paddington (you dont nknow how long it will take to get through immigration etc). If she takes the Piccadilly Line tube from Heathrow it goes all the way to Kings Cross- no need to change anywhere. Agian dont and cant reserve. runs every 5 minutes or so So you just need to get the Kings Cross to Edinburgh and then the local to Leuchars railway tickets.

She could also fly from Heathrow to Edinburgh with BMI . Several flights a day & 'economy saver' seats are only about $80. "flybmi.com"

I did this with my husband a few years ago and it is easier than it sounds. Tube or taxi to King's Cross (there was a tube strike when we were there). You've laready got good advice on which tube line. I know I made reservations that went all the way through to Leuchers on National Rail. My problem was that I calculated the time wrong and then couldn't change to an earlier train. The change at Edinburgh was very easy and even with west-coast jet lag we did it easily. The station is small and everyone is very helpful.
