My family will be taking a Mediterranean cruise next June. Prior to the departure of the cruise, I would like to spend a few days in Germany with my 2 children (ages 10 & 13). What is the best way (train or plane) to travel from Frankfurt or Munich to Barcelona?

Why Germany if departing from Barcelona? They are a long ways apart. Only reasonable alternative given the time involved is a flight. Since you are going on a cruise, the assumption is that you will not be light on luggage which is a huge penalty if using discount airline as recommended above.
