Traveling from Brussels to Edinburgh

Which is the best way to get from Brussels to Edinburgh? We'll be flying into CDG and out of Heathrow, but are visiting Paris, Brussels, Edinburgh and London. Should we do London between Brussels and Edinburgh? Is it worth it to ride the Eurostar?

There are non-stop flights from Brussels to Edinburgh on BMI.

I'm looking into the same route and will probably Eurostar to London St. Pancras, walk next door to King's Cross, and hop a train to Edinburgh.

BMI offer direct flights from Brussels to Edinburgh, and you will find details at www.bmi.com. There are also some indirect flights by various airlines, and your choice between flying and train depends on cost, journey time and convenience.

Kayak does show the BMI runs...I believe 2 or 3 a day are non-stop, and they have others with one stop. Besides bmi, kayak also shows British airways making the Edinburgh-Brussels run with 1 stop, about $15 cheaper than bmi for an arbitrary date next April! I always try to double-check the "big boys" as well...if they have competition from the discount airlines, their prices can be comparable, and their schedules more convenient.

Thanks for the help. Has anyone had any trouble booking Eurostar here in the US and having it honored in Brussels? Also, wondering about Thalys bookings for Paris to Brussels, done in US. Does the on-line receipt have to be turned in at the station, or is it good to go?

If you book well in advance (up to 90 days allowed) at www.thalys.com, you can get a Mini or Smoove fare as low as €25 for Paris-Brussels. (They sell out fast so book ASAP.) Choose France as the ticket retrieval country and English as the language. Choose paper ticket. If you succeed in getting a Mini fare, print the ticket yourself and take it with you. If you get a standard fare ticket, choose to pick it up at the station. You'll need to present the confirmation number you'll be given and the credit card used when booking in order to retrieve the ticket.

Thanks for the Thalys tip. I just tried to buy two smoove tickets on-line, and it wouldn't accept my Visa card. Called my card issue-er and they didn't deny it, so they must not want me to purchase the tickets???

Mission accomplished. Tried a different card and it worked.
