We are flying into Amsterdam, and staying a few days with the purpose of seeing the Anne Frank House, then we will be spending the balance of our vacation in Italy. Is there a better/best way to get from Amsterdam to the Lake Como area? Train or small flight?
Easyjet flies from Schipol to Milan Malpensa. In addition to flying, there is a direct City Night Line train from Amsterdam to Milan. From Milan there is frequent train service to the region. The train leaves Amsterdam at 5pm and arrives 7:50am. If you elect to do the night train, you should splurge for the private sleeper compartments as it's a 15 hour journey.
I've already purchased my ticket(€62)on Easyjet which was expensive but I will be meeting up with someone in Milan and couldn't "afford" to miss the connection.
Take the train. The scenery is gorgeous-you can't see squat from 30,000 feet. And, you could break up the journey into 2 or 3 days and really enjoy the trip. Endless possibilities.
