We will stay in Stresa for 3 nights on our return from Verona by train. We have a reservation at Belvedere Hotel in Bellagio on lake Como. Are there local trains, or a bus service connecting Stresa to Bellagio? We realize we can go back to Milan and then to Como and then a boat to Bellagio. Is there a way to avoid going through Milan?
There is no bus service or local train connecting Stresa and Bellagio. The best way to make the trip is to take the train from Stresa to Milano Centrale, then a train from there to either Como or Varenna. From Como you can take a bus or hydrofoil to Bellagio; from Varenna there is a ferry to Bellagio. If you choose Como, get off at the San Giovanni station there. The train station in Varenna is called "Varenna-Esino". If you just enter "Varenna" on the Trenitalia website, it will say "invalid station." Varenna is much closer to Bellagio than is Como.
Thank you. Your advice is very helpful. Indeed, if you just put Varenna on the EuroRail site, you get an invalid destination response.
