so some of us on our trip next year want to spend another week at the end of italy and go to Krakow Poland. Flying between the two cities (Rome - Krakow) seems very expensive. Does anyone have experience either via train or driving that can give some help? Much appreciated...
Lisa, I don't know when next year your trip is but I went to skyscanner.net and found a flight on Brussels Airlines for US$162 with a change in Brussels. The flight takes 7 hours, not counting the 1-2 hour check-in time. Don't have the cost for the train but it takes anywhere from 22-27 hours with 3 to 5 changes. (I used the DeutschBahn site for accuracy, knowing I wouldn't be able to price it since the travel wouldn't begin or end in Germany.)
Lisa, we've flown from Rome to Krakow a few times. To reduce expenses (and time) we flew on Wizz Air. They are a low-cost provider that flies out of Rome (CIA) to the 2nd airport in Krakow (Katowice - KTW). Then, we booked a Airport shuttle bus - almost a two-hour ride with traffic - into the city. So like the Brussels option, it did involve some extra time built into the journey, but we found it quite inexpensive as we bought out tickets well in advance each time. You might head to their website and check out the cost. You can also book the connecting bus through them. Krakow is an amazing city!
Darcy and Ron, thanks so much for your input. I will check out all suggestions. I didn't realize the time that would be involved in either the plane or the train option but then again, when looking at the map, it is a long way!
