Is it best to have a car or use public transportation in Barcelona?
We used the bus and metro all over Barcelona. The main city is not hard to get around, and we even did a lot of walking.
I think to rent a car would be a headache. Not just parking, but Barcelona is also know for petty crimes.
DON'T rent a car...very bad driving in Barcelona, and parking is virtually non-existent. As has been mentioned, Barcelona, like most European cities, has a fine public transportation system. They also have three hop-on, hop-off bus routes that will take you to all the tourist sites....and it's best to stroll downhill along the Ramblas from Placa Catalunya.
That's right, Norm.. the HO/HO bus was great! After looking at the map, the stops the bus made were the places we wanted to go anyway. There's multiple routes to take, 2 routes that runs year round, and 1 route that runs that is during peak season.
