Hello friends,
My husband and I are taking a trip to Europe next month and Greece is one of our stops. We're having trouble determining what the best way is to travel to and from Greece and between the Islands. We are covering a lot in our trip so don't have a lot of time to spend on travel and, of course, if we can do that in an affordable way even better. We plan to fly from Rome, Italy to Greece and then go from Greece to Vienna, Austria. 1. Would you suggest we go from Rome to the islands (Santorini/Mykonos) to Athens and then to Vienna? OR 2. Should we go from Rome to Athens to the islands to Vienna? 3. Is it possible to fly from either Santorini or Mykonos to Vienna? If so, which island would be better to fly out of? 4. Should we fly between the islands or take the ferry? Essentially, we are wondering what the best way to travel in, out, and within Greece would be. Thanks for your help in advance, Khyati
Talk about last minute planning. 1. and 2. If going to the islands, everything goes through Athens. Check with Aegean Air. Their ticket price is similar to Southwest so the cheap tickets could be gone by now. At times there is a flight between Santorini and Rome but it is very limited. You are really looking at a triangle of Athens, Rome, Vienna. Don't think it makes much difference which way you do it. But this would lend itself and it would be cheaper if doing an open jaw ticket. 3. Santorini is the bigger airport - that is not saying much - so you would have better options to and from Santorini. 4. If your time is limited you have to fly because the ferries are slow and do not go in a direct line.
