Travel Venice to Brig

I am traveling from Venice to Brig on July 2. I see ItaliaRail, where tickets are great prices. I can leave VEnice to Milan at 16.20, and book ahead. How do I get the next leg, Milan to Brig done ahead of time? Where do I book this portion of the trip? I am confused since i am leaving Italy and heading to Switzerland. I am not getting a pass of any sort, as this is hte only train journey I am taking....thanks! I want to book ahead and pay now online.

It is on Trenitalia. Make sure you use "Venezia Santa Lucia" as the starting point (choose it from the -downmenu), and put in a time around 14:00. Then it will show that train: http://www.lefrecce.it/B2CWeb/search.do?parameter=searchOutputViewer The standard price is 65 euros and I could find no Smart Fares for July 2, at least on that train. So you could wait and book it when you get to Italy, if Trenitalia proves cranky. Or you could look for discount fares on the train options with a change in Milan.

Pattie, that 16:20 train goes to Brig without a change to another train (actually I think this train goes all the way to Geneva, but it you are heading to the Berner Oberland you would get off in Brig and change to a Swiss train to Spiez). You should be able to book that train on trenitalia.com and get a good price. If you want to arrive at Brig earlier than 21:16 when that train arrives, you could take an earlier train from Venice to Milan, and change there for a train to Brig. Again, you would book this on Trenitalia.

That's what I thought, too, but I can't find the timetable and booking for Venice- Brig. I was using Italiarail because people said it was easier to use, but I can switch to Trenitalia if it has information I need. THANK YOU SO MUCH! Should i get a reservation and pay online ahead of time? I was thinking that was best for piece of mind. THANKS aghain. Any other info. so appreciated....

As Lola says, the 16:20 train goes directly from Venezia Santa Lucia to Brig. The Smart and Smart 2 discount fare tickets are sold out. The standard 2nd class fare is €65.00. Book on trenitalia.com. You don't have to register on the site to book tickets, but things go more smoothly if you do.

Pattie, It would help to have a bit of further information. For example, is Brig your final destination or will you be travelling onward from there to another location in Switzerland? Also, is there a reason you're travelling that late in the day? Cheers!

Thank you everyone who has helped me with this! I have booked my ticket. I decided to change trains in Milan so I could get to Brig a bit earlier. I hope this is not a problem -- with 30 minutes I thought I'd be fine. Happy Travels to you, too!

I am trying to book Brig to Venice for 31-Jul-13. Trenitalia.com is giving a fare of Euro 65. Is it a good price to purchase the ticket? What could be the full (max fare) for this leg? In some of the post, I saw someone mentioned Euro 32 for this. pls suggest.

Hi Neeru---the 32€fare you are looking for is a Srart Fare. To see it on Trenitalia, use the s e l e c t button for that train. MIT will highlight it in red and show details below. Look for "Show other fares and services" and tick the box, then press Continue. On the next page, under Show Fares, you can get a drop-down menu with other fares, like HBX Switz ( for holders of a Half Fare Card for Switzerland, child fare, Smart and Smart2. It looks like the Smart Fares are sold out for July 31.
