What is the best airport and cheapest way to fly to Verona, Italy from San Francisco, CA. Are there trains to get to Verona from the airport? We will be traveling in June 2011.

Verona is only about 1 1/2 hours by train from Milan. It is a little over an hour by train from Venice. It may take a little longer coming from the airport. You will probably find better deals to Milan from SFO.

In addition to Milan, I would also suggest that you check flights into Verona itself. Get on a site like kayak.com, put VRN as your destination, and check the box to include nearby airports. Doing this will also show you flights into Verona, Milan, Venice, and some other airports. If you do fly into Verona, there is a bus from the Verona airport that runs to the Verona train station. If you fly into Milan, you will likely take a bus to the central train station where you can take a train to Verona.

Cheap! Check airberlin.com (limited access) / better CALL Air Berlin 1 866 266 5588 ! They fly in and out of SFO Tuesdays & Fridays. Keep in mind, you are traveling high season. I was able to book a very cheap airfare traveling in May!! You should be able to fly with one stopover in Dussledorf, Germany to Venice. From Venice airport, take the ACTV bus #5 for 3 Euro to the main train station. Go directly to the ticket window and not the tourist window and buy a train ticket to Verona for under 10 Euro.
