Travel to Tirano for the Bernina Express

Rick refers to the bus from Lugano to Tirano to catch the Bernina Express train trip through the Alps. There is a better option, expecially coming up from Rome. The train goes to Milano where one transfers to a train which goes directly to Tirano. Why Rick doesn't mention this alternative is a puzzle since the train offers many more arrival time options than the one bus per day from Lugano. Is there some reason one would not take the train as opposed to the bus trip?

It looks like none of us know the answer to your question. Below is a link that takes you to the Feedback webpage for Rick's books, perhaps you'll want to post your feedback there, assuming it relates to a statement in one of Rick's books.

Of course I can't speak for Rick, but I will say that the Bernina Express is a Swiss "scenic train" route, going between the Swiss town of Lugano and the Swiss town of Luzern. The bus transfer between Lugano and Tirano through Italy is part of it if you want to buy the whole route. And Rick's description describes it as it is, as a package starting and ending in Switzerland.

But hopefully anyone in Italy who wants to connect would realize that they can pick it up at Tirano without going to Lugano for the bus portion.
