Travel to Santorini, Mykonos, and Samos (to Kusadasi)

Hello

I am arriving in Athens with my wife on 4/23/09.

I want to travel to Santorini (3 days), then Mykonos (2) and on to Samos so that I can travel thru Kusadasi to Ephesus (1 day)and then up to Izmir with travel to
Cappadocia (3 days) and then back to Athens (3 days).

I have had no luck with my plan to travel from Mykonos to Samos as I cannot find a flight or ferry for this part of the trip. If anyone knows how please let me know,

Tonight I figured out that maybe I can ferry or fly to Mykonos (stay 2 days) first, then take a hydrofoil from Mykonos to Santorini (3 days) and then fly to Santorini to Samos and then to Kusadasi etc.

Please let me know if I am crazy but this might work!

Also once we see Ephesus and want to travel to Cappadocia for 3 days. I believe I can bus from Ephesus to Izmir and catch a plane from there to Kayseri fairly reasonbly. Stay three days there and bus to Ankara (four hours) and take an overnight train to Istanbul (10 hours) which is also reasonable and maybe fun. Let me know.

Lastly, any suggestions on places I might have missed along the way. I have 3 extra days I figure as my trip is 18 days in Greece/Turkey travel time once I reach Athens. I have no reservations made except my rountrip ticket to Athens on 4/23 arrival retruning 5/11.

Thanks in advance!

Generally speaking, flights in the islands tend to go through Athens, rather than Island to Island. So Aegean Air from Mykonos to Athens, then on to Samos is always an option. It actually may be faster and more comfortable than ferry, and maybe not much more expensive. By ferry, the problem is that online schedules are for current routes, and between now and mid-May, many routes will be added as the season ramps up. There is a ferry route that goes either through Mykonos or Paros then on to Samos. It may not be daily. Maybe try looking in a recent edition of Lonely Planet, they do a good job of condensing typical ferry schedules and connections between islands.

Thanks Paul. I am now considering a high speed ferry from Athens to Santorini, then from Santorini to Mykonos and lastly from Mykonos to Chios and then ferry to Izmir to start my Turkey portion of the trip. I really appreciate your reponse as this is the first time I have ever blogged on any website and I leave in 3 days.
