Staying in Bayeau, France at end of October and would like to travel to Mont St Michel.....a bus seems to be the best or would I rent a car and drive, any suggestions or real life experiences..Thanks
The fastest route is Bayeux-Coutances-Pontorson with the first leg being on a train and the second being on a bus. At Pontorson you would need to take either a local bus or a taxi to Mont-Saint-Michel. See the timetables on the German Rail site. They won't show the local bus. If you leave Bayeux at 07:30, you'll arrive at Pontorson at 09:46, in time to catch the 10:10 local bus to Mont-Saint-Michel.
We rented a car in Bayeau and drove - it was very easy - roads very easy to drive on.
If you can afford to rent a car, I'd highly suggest it. Getting to MSM by public transit is frustrating and time-consuming.
I agree with the car rental - when we drove from Bayeux to MSM we were able to stop at interesting places along the way, including an out-of-the-way restaurant that had great food.
