What is the approximate travel time by train from Chamonix France to Florence Italy. I have tried to figure this out and have been able too.

The German Rail website gives the time by train from Chamonix (11:17) via Martigny, Visp, and Milan (3 changes) to Florence (19:44) as 8½ hours.
By car, according to ViaMichelin, if the roads are good, it can take a little over 5½ hours.

At the Swiss border the carriage gets switched to another train, so I counted that as a change even though you technically don't have to get off the train.
