I plan to take the train from Rome to Florence, then bus to Siena. Which train from Rome is the fastest. And also, any recommendaions for taking the bus to Siena from Florence?

Obviously the high speed trains are the fastest trains. Check the trenitalia.com web site and see which train takes the least time. The fast trains will vary some depending on route and stops made. Don't know if any one train is the fastest. What is the rush anyway?
Jeff, If you Google "train from Rome to Florence", you'll be able to pull up the Trenitalia website, enter your departure and arrival cities, and choose from a schedule that will let you decide a departure time and correspondingly, tell you how long a ride it will be. The intercity trains are slower than than the direct trains that don't stop in the smaller towns. And the high speed trains, although the fastest, are also the most expensive. I've made that trip several times. It's an opportunity to either view the lovely countryside or review your guide book and plans for Florence. One hint; take food and drink along if you'll want anything during the ride; provisions on the train are expensive and not very good. Happy travels!
The bus station in Florence is a bit tricky to find: looking at the the station, go around to the left side, then continue about one block down the street. It's on your right.
You're passing Siena to go to Florence, so you can also consider taking the bus from Rome to Siena, then the bus to Florence. That's how we did it a couple of months ago.
