Travel on Tallink Siljia boats - do they run on time?

We will be taking the overnight Tallink Siljia boat from Tallinn to Stockholm and I'm wondering if the boats normally run on schedule. I am planning train travel once we arrive in Stockholm but am wondering if the cruise boats usually arrive on time or are they often delayed?

these are working ferries not tourist cruise ships (although on board they aren't far off cruise ships). They can be affected by bad weather and other issues like any other ferry but the schedules will be realistic otherwise they wouldn't survive in business.

We went back and forth on the ferries from Stockholm to Tallin last September and they ran on time. However, as previously posted, nothing is perfect and weather, mechanical issues, and other delays can happen. I faced the same questions last September. We were flying in from Jordan via Frankfurt. I was worried about plane delays making us miss the ship. (Our cruise was intended to be a mini vacation between our Israel/Jordan tour and our self tour of Sweden and Norway). I allowed a 4 plus hour gap between the two. (We were to land at noon and you had to be on board the ship by 4:45.) I researched ways to the ship dock (they ranged from inexpensive to a taxi. I figured if we were cutting it too close, we would do the taxi). In the end, everything went smoothly. I would try and leave a buffer between the train and the ship. I don't think it has to be as long as ours was (the ships have a much better record of being on time then airline flights). It does take time to get off the boat and get down to the train station. (We walked to the underground station which drops you right at the train station. It was a 10-15 minute walk). Also, you should look at your credit card benefits. We have travel benefits that include "trip delays". It is suppose to cover such events provided you pay for the cruise and the train tickets with the card. I have never filed a claim with the company so I don't know how reliable the coverage really is. However, I did file a claim with CSA travel insurance once. What I learned is to know the rules of what I need to do and follow them exactly. (It usually includes opening your claim with a few hours, not after you get home) In that case, my claim was paid 100%. This last trip, I tucked the brochure explaining the benefits into my suitcase just in case. Thankfully, it was never used. Have a great time. We really enjoyed the cruise.

I rode the Tallink Silja line roundtrip from Tallinn to Helsinki in mid-Sept (still good weather, time of year might make a difference for weather disturbances) and both voyages were on time and a pleasant experience.

We had three ferry trips in Scandinavia last month. Two were on time, one (the longest) was about 20 minutes late. You also have to allow enough time to debark from the ship with a large crowd of people, go through customs/immigration, and get to the train station. The passport checks coming in to Norway added about 20 minutes to the debarkation process. I don't know what they do in Stockholm, but be prepared to spend some time in line.
