What would be our best way to plan on traveling from where our daughter lives in Ljubljana, Slovenia for a few days in Paris? Fly? Train? If flying, do you have any idea which carriers would be least expensive?
THANK YOU
To look at train schedules, use the Bahn (German rail) site, following Rick's tutorial: http://www.ricksteves.com/plan/tips/db_tips.htm You will probably want to fly, so look at SkyScanner for flights: http://www.skyscanner.com/. Be careful of using "Paris Beauvais Airport"; this is actually far from Paris, so you have to allow extra time and money to get there. Orly and Charles de Gaulle are much closer.
THANK YOU FOR THE HELP!
Karen, You can choose the flying option. Beauvais is between Paria and Amiens, very charming town if you don't want to run into loads of tourists. I'm planning a revisit. Now, of course, you can do the route by train with only one change. That depends upon your time constraint. I would do the two legs this way: take the day train direct EC Ljubljana (Laibach) to Munich. Then take the direct CNL night train Munich Hbf to Paris Est. Your only transfer is in Munich. If you want to break up the ride, stay the night in Munich, and take the day train to Paris, you have change one or two times. To avoid transfering more than once, I would suggest this route: take the early Munich to Frankfurt on the ICE, then the ICE to Paris. You'll arrive in Paris Est by 1650.
there is a flight from CDG to LJU. I took it about 2-3 yrs ago, can't recall the price now but it's a very short flight on very small airplane, maybe smaller than flight from Seattle to Portland Oregon. it's air france I recall.
