In searching for flights to Europe, Travelocity offers a travel insurance plan for $39.50 per ticket. It covers medical evacuation, trip cancellation/interruption/delay, travel accident, medical assistance, baggage, World emergency assistance (AIG Travel Assist), etc. This sounds like a terrific deal compared to other trip insurance I checked which are often based on age. Does anyone have additional knowledge/experience/comments on this insurance offer through Travelocity? Thanks!
$39.50 covering all of that, including medical and medical evacuation, with no inquiry by the insurer into age, sounds too good to be true. At the very least, I'd read the details of the coverage before buying, to avoid thinking you're insured only to find out later your coverage was not what you thought.
To me It also sounds too good to be true at that price.
I bought travel insurance through Orbitz for around $35 a ticket that includes everything you listed. I haven't ever had to use it, but I would think companies like Travelocity and Orbitz wouldn't sell bad insurance? Hopefully...
If this is your first time to get involved with travel insurance, then it is probably not as good as you think. When you read the fine prints, you find there are many restrictions involved. For example, if you get sick and want to cancel the trip and get reimbursed, you will have to get a doctor to prove it. Just to say I stay in bed for 3 days is not enough. You can google "travel insurance complaint" and see life examples of these claims.
On the other hand, it usually costs $30-50 dollars per person, and it does seem to cover extreme situations for trip interrupt, person illness, rental car collision, etc. So I don't see it a huge rip-off, you just have to read the fine prints.

I have read the fine details (printed out reams of paper) and it reads like the same AIG offers through Rick. In fact it appears to be underwritten by AIG. I would not expect to use it but it does seem to cover the emergencies and more. As someone mentioned, I don't think a large well known company like Orbitz or Travelocity would offer a junk policy. A large group policy has a big risk pool to draw from.
Audrey: What is the coverage limit on medical per person? and on medical evacuation? I mean the dollar limits?
From what I read, the most common complaint is the refusal of reimbursement for canceling a trip due to a relative's illness/death from a "pre-existing" condition. For example, if someone's grandfather was diagnosed with a terminal illness 3 years ago, and the situation deteoriotes quickly right before the trip, then the insurance company does not reimburse for the canceled trip.
Or if I may put it bluntly, the illness/death has to be a total surprise for the insurance to kick in. This example could be a good test for this Travelocity insurance policy to see if it is different from the rest of the pack.

$5,000 limit on medical coverage, hmmmm? That's not adequate coverage, if that's your only medical coverage in Europe. You can get $100,000 policy limit coverage for medical at these two sites, for not very much more (depending on your age), I'd sure compare medical coverage, medical and medical evacuation are the two that can wipe you out financially if you don't have enough coverage: http://www.travelersmed.com/http://www.insuremytrip.com/
I have Blue Cross insurance that covers medical expenses worldwide. Mainly I'm concerned about medical evacuation and trip cancellation as I have heard horror stories. However, I don't think this would cover my RS tour but just my airfare. Thanks for the links. I'll check them out.
