I'm arriving in Heathrow and am staying at a B&B on Lennard Street in South London (by Penge Station) - what's the best way to get from Heathrow to Penge Station? Thanks. Also, what's the best way to get from Penge Station to Gatwick? We're renting a car from Gatwick a few days after we arrive in London.
Esther one of the best investments you could make before your trip is to buy the RS book on London. Loads of insightful, practical and useful information about money exchange, lodging, transportation, weather, museums, etc. Have to ask why you are staying so far out of London proper? Not an easy place to get to from Heathrow. A quick look on the London Transport website offered the following travel option to Penge East station. Not quick. http://www.transportdirect.info/Web2/JourneyPlanning/JourneyDetails.aspx?cacheparam=2
As far as Penge to Gatwick I'd ask your B n B hosts but I'll surmise it's a combination of rail and bus travel.
Take the Tube (Piccadilly Line) from Heathrow to Hammersmith. Walk a few feet to the other side of the platform and take the District Line to Victoria. Take a Southeastern train from Victoria to the Penge East station. Take a Southern train from the Penge West station to East Croydon and a First Capital Connect train from there to Gatwick.
Thank you so much. I appreciate it.
You don't have to only take a FCC train from East Croydon. There are also plenty of Southern trains there.
