What would be the best way to travel from Sorrento to Florence in May 2012?

Carolyn, The method I'd use is Circumvesuviana from Sorrento to Napoli Centrale (travel time about an hour), and then EuroStar Italia / Alta Velocita from Naples to Florence (travel time 2H:56M, reservations compulsory). Happy travels

Ken's suggestion is best. The fare on the high-speed from Naples to Florence will cost 72Eu. If you can book early and lock in your travel date and time, you can get the 58Eu mini-fare online. See www.trenitalia.com The Circumvesuviana train from Sorrento to Naples Centrale is a separate train system. Once in the lower level of Naples Centrale, you go upstairs to the Trenitalia train station for the high-speed.
