Travel in Germany and Italy

I have timeshares booked for the first two weeks in June 2009, one in Hunstruck, Germany and then the next week in La Villa in Badia,Italy (60 miles from Verona). I would like to use the timeshares as bases and go on day trips or even overnight stays if necessary. I do not really know where to start on an itinerary . Any suggestions?

It will help us advise you if you clarify the two locations by giving correct spellings or postal numbers, as there are no locations spelled Hunstruck that the two major online map websites can locate.

Ann,

FYI. Using Umlauts on your keyboard:

Press and hold down the ALT key whilst typing:

0196 for Ä

0228 for ä

0214 for Ö

0246 for ö

0220 for Ü

0252 for ü

0223 for ß

NB: You must use the numbers keypad and not the numbers above the letters. Also NUM LOCK must be on.

Ann: As you can see above, Jo's best guess (she lives in Frankfurt) about which Hünsruck your timeshare is at (there are several locations in Germany with similar spelling) is the Hünsruck region located between the Rhine and Mosel Rivers, about 45 mins driving time west of the Rhine River town of Bacharach. If this is the right place, you can do day trips east to Bacharach, St Goar and other Rhine River towns that are well described in Rick's book Germany; and also go north to Burg Eltz and other Mosel River sights that are described in Rick's book.Unfortunately, Badia, Italy is not as conveniently located for day trips as is Hünsruck--Badia is a small remote village about 4500 feet up in the middle of Italy's Dolomite Mountains--thus the overnight stays you mentioned in your original post are probably going to be necessary for you to get very far. Day trips will work to Bolzano and Castelrotto. Looks like you'll need a car to get to and from Badia. To give you an example of the driving time from Badia to major sights farther away, the driving time to Verona is about 2hrs 45 mins (150 road miles) each way, not an easy day trip for most people.
