Travel Guidance Needed!

Any advice or recommendations on where to travel March 10 -13 (after arriving in Paris)? My daughter is studying in Lausanne, Switzerland, and wants to join her sister and me on a 3/4 day trip to a "warmer" climate. She has hit most major cities in northern Europe and would love to see something new. Was thinking of Morocco? We were in Lisbon in October with her - great trip and she has done northern Spain. She has to be back in classes; thus, the 3/4 day turnaround. Thanks for helping me think!

Great tips, and we are landing in CDG, Paris. Shall look into what these airlines offer. We will be flying back to Geneva to get to Lausanne via train for 3 days and then I thought 3 days in Paris . . . Versaille.

Any particular city in Morocco (there were 4 recommended) or particular Canary island that we should aim for?
Thank to all for this great help!

I haven't been to the Canary Islands, but for a while before and after our trip to Spain I was reading the Spain forums on TripAdvisor.com on a regular basis. I learned more about the Canary Islands over on TA than I ever thought I wanted to know. It appears to be particularly well-traveled by folks from the UK and Ireland.

Might be a place to start if you don't get many responses on this board.

Good luck!

Thanks, Steve. I should have mentioned that she has been to all parts Italy over the years, but not the Cote d' Azur or Antibes. I shall do the due diligence now! THe Canary Islands keeps coming up on my search for a warm March destination? But which island? Too much to know!

Suggest you look at either www.easyjet.com and/or www.airberlin.com, both of which fly out of terminal 3 at CDG. One can get you to the Spanish Islands in the Med, while the other flies to Morocco. You can use their sites for hotels, ect. Tons of EU folks head in that direction for holiday.

I've been to Morocco (twice) and the canary islands (several of them, anyway).

Depends on exactly what you're looking for in a "warmer climate" trip. Do you want to sit on a beach and play in the water? If so, you could do that in either the Canary Islands or coastal Morocco. You will find mega-tourism and lots of nekkid, sunburned northern Europeans on Gran Canaria - in some respects, very similar to the over-developed Costa del Sol of Spain's southern coast (which would be another option of you want a beach and "English spoken here" everywhere). Some of the smaller Canary Islands (Fuertaventura, Lanzarote) have less development and still some OK beaches, plus some amazing volcanic terrain and great windsurfiing.

If you want to expand your cultural horizons, I'd go to Morocco, specifically Marrakesh and Fez - you can't go wrong with them.

You might also consider central/southwestern Spain - Madrid and Andalucia. Great things to see and do there.

Too many good choices.

What are Tunis? When we were there two year ago off a cruise ship we were impressed by the beaches and the town. It moved quickly to the top of our return list. This past Fall when we were in Italy we noticed a lot of very reasonable packages for Tunis. Some of the other suggestions would involved longer travel.

I very much appreciate all the advice - now the booking of the flights remains the challenge. I am leaning towards Morocco . . . but just checked and CDG Paris isn't the best locale to hop on flights to Morocco - but will research some more. Again, thanks to all!

Check the discount airlines. In fall of 2008 there were very inexpensive flights between CDG and Fes - we flew from Madrid to Marrakech, and back from Fes to Paris. Both flights were less that 75 Euro each way. There are several discount airlines that fly from various points in Europe to Morocco. It's a fascinating country.
