Travel from Zurich to Cortona, Italy?

Any suggestions? I can't seem to find a train to Cortona. Do I need to go to a nearby city and then take????? What would be the closest city?
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Sharon

Sharon, Cortona is served by a local regional train out of Florence or Rome. You'll change trains 1-2 times on the way. Interestingly, the Italian train system shows Cortona as two different stops - Camucia-Cortona and Terontola-Cortona. Neither Camucia or Terontola are on a detailed map of Italy but Cortona is. Go figure. The trip will take you 8.0hrs-9.5hrs depending on the run you choose.

Will you be taking the train from Zurich main station or the Zurich Flughafen (airport)? I have a schedule below form the Zurich main train station. From the airport, you might change trains again at Zurich hB (main station) for this international trip).

CLICK HERE to see what the schedule looks like. Click on Select on one of the runs and then click on Details by Selection. Scroll down to see more information. Select Info and you'll see the stops.

Larry,
Thank you so much! I wonder if there would be a bus that would also travel from Zurich to Cortona?

Sharon, I seriously doubt that there is a bus from Zurich to Florence. Switzerland does have a fantastic bus system but it doesn't travel far into Italy. Besides, they are really local. The trains are the primary method of public distance transportation in Switzerland.

There certainly could be a bus from Florence to Cortona. You might look into www.sitabus.it. The SITA bus terminal is about 1,000' from the Florence train station.
