Travel from Venice to Varenna?

Easy peasy. Take the high-speed to Milano Centrale and change to a Regionale train to Varenna-Esino. Expect a travel time of 4hrs33min and an ordnary train fare of 42.25Euro. At Varenna, be prepared to get off the train quickly. Unless they've changed, it doesn't stop too long.
