I am taking my 87-year-old Mother to Italy and want to make things easy, including avoiding stairs/steps as much as possible. At the end of our month plus trip, we need to go from Venice to catch our 1100am flight from Rome home. Is plane, train, or bus easier? I assume we will have to go the day before and find a hotel near the Rome Fiumicini Airport. There are some on the water...any suggestions for what would work best? Thank you!
Elaine,
I, too, am looking for the best recommenation for transportation from Venice to Rome to catch a flight. We are traveling with 4 children, and are trying to decide if it is best to take the fast train (a little more than 4 hours) the afternoon before our flight and sleep near the airport (would love recommendations) or take a night train arriving by about 700 am. I look forward to help from anyone!
With an 11 am departure, you can conveniently stay in the Termini area and take the train to the airport or a shuttle from you hotel. A shuttle is better for you because it dumps you in front of the terminal instead of the somewhat long walk from the airport train station.
Agreed. This is the best solution: high-speed train Venezia-Roma Termini + Leonardo Express to the airport + shuttle to hotel + overnight stay + shuttle back to the airport.
I agree with Frank. Take either a late afternoon or early evening train from Venezia Santa Lucia to Roma Termini. Stay in a hotel near Termini. In the morning take either the Leonardo Express train or a Sita shuttle bus from Termini to the airport. The Leonardo Express runs every 30 minutes and the ride takes 32 minutes. The Sita bus runs less frequently and the ride takes at least 60 minutes.
Thank you so much for the information so far. It looks like the train will be best. Now, any suggestions for a hotel near the airport that offers a shuttle to get us to the flight?
Go to www.tripadvisor.com and enter Fiumicino, Italy. You will see lots of hotels. It looks like you are settled on staying at the airport. The hotels there are a bit expensive and the service isn't that great because they know why you are there. The Hilton is the closest and actually has an long overhead ramp into the airport. As mentioned above, spend your last evening in Rome, have a nice dinner and take the Leonardo Express or taxi to the airport. Your flight is at 11:00am. Leave Rome at 7:00am or so and you are just fine.
