A friend and I will be traveling to Greece this summer, and want to visit Turkey while we are nearby. I have read that the train from Thessaloniki to Istanbul has been cancelled. I've also had difficulty finding information about busses going between Greece and Turkey. Our departing flight leaves from Istanbul, so we can't just not go to Turkey. Any suggestions on the easiest/smoothest route to get from one country to the other?

Someone else asked the same question (reverse direction) here a couple of days ago. Depending on how much time you have you may need to fly. Otherwise you can look into island hopping by ferry (probably via Lesvos), or what sounds like a rather laborious bus trip.
